Busting Through a Plateau

As you move forward on your health and fitness journey,  I want to share some thoughts with you that might make a difference in your progress.

You may, or may not know, it’s incredibly common for people to hit a “PLATEAU” when it comes to their fitness progress.  And, most often they instantly blame it on their workouts.   This sometimes happens to world-class athletes, too!

DOING SOMETHING WRONG?

Sure, there’s a chance that they might be performing the wrong exercises.

Or, even doing the right exercises in the wrong order.  Or, performing them incorrectly.

And hey, maybe their routines are out-of-balance whereby they might be overdoing the cardio and not performing enough strength training. Or vice versa.

Maybe it’s as simple as not hitting the gym enough.  Or, just the opposite and training a bit too much (yes, believe it or not, you can “overtrain”).

THE REAL CAUSE…

Now, all of these things could potentially be true, but I have a hunch that none of them are actually the real root cause of the problem.

You see, there are 168 hours in a week, and for most of us, managing to squeeze in just three to five hours of training is already a big accomplishment.

So, if you feel like you’ve hit a plateau… or are not making progress, it might be worth taking a closer look at what’s happening during the other 165 hours of your week.

FOR EXAMPLE:

How’s your menu plan looking?

Are you nourishing your body with proper nutrition…?  Or,  are you caught up in mindless snacking, frequent dining out and a whole bunch of overly processed foods?

What about sleep? Are you getting close to eight hours of shut-eye each night?   Or are you struggling to make it past the five-hour mark?

Then, of course, there’s the big one: STRESS!  How are you handling your daily stress?  Managing stress is vital for maintaining a healthy balance.

Do you have a way to manage your stress?  Or, does your stress relief mostly come from glass of wine or a cold beer?

THE OTHER HOURS…

So… consider this:  If you’re NOT seeing the results you desire, I’m willing to bet that it’s not because you were lifting too much weight or because you overdid it performing steady-state cardio!

The real culprit is most likely lurking within the “Other Hours” of your week.

TAKE YOUR PICK!

So, if you think you’ve hit a plateau…. think about the areas we discussed.

Pick just one.  And, then, dedicate this week to improving it.   It could be you menu plan, your sleep or stress.

Take some time to focus on it and improve it.

And, keep track of your progress along the way with a written journal.

MULTI RESULTS!

I have a feeling that by addressing these underlying factors, you’ll not only start feeling better…  but you’ll likely experience some awesome results from your workouts.
